Laura Migus

Laura Huerta Migus is Director of Fellowship Alumni Engagement and National Activation & Impact at Ascend at the Aspen Institute, where she supports and activates the Ascend Fellows alumni community to advance family prosperity and well-being. She previously held national leadership roles in the museum field, including at IMLS, the Association of Children’s Museums, and the Association of Science-Technology Centers, and is known for work on equity, audience-focused museum practice, Museums for All, and two-generation family initiatives.

Family-Led Models Aim to Scale Child Care, Housing, and Health Supports

At the Aspen Ideas Festival, Ascend’s Anne Mosle and parent adviser Carolina Salas framed family policy as a design problem that should start with families’ lived expertise, not agency silos. In a conversation with Maria Rodman, Katie Albright and Laura Migus, they argued that practical models already exist for housing, child care, health care, education and community support, but that scaling them depends on preserving local family leadership and forcing institutions to coordinate around how families actually live.
