Public Recognition of War Heroes Has Faded, Along With Their Role as Civic Models

Military veteran and YouTuber Nic Palmer, known as The Fat Electrician, argues that Americans hear less about war heroes because governments have less reason to promote them—and that the loss matters because people need examples of courage to imagine what they might do themselves. He makes that case through stories of overlooked service members, from the fighting preacher Logan Weston to the improvising pilot Pappy Gunn, while emphasizing that heroism also depends on the support work and difficult choices that rarely attract public notice.
